Wraps of warmth for Gillitts’ learners

Two hundred learners from Gillitts Primary School were gifted beautifully knitted scarves ahead of the winter chill.

BEFORE winter hits KwaZulu-Natal in full force, 200 learners at Gillitts Primary School were each gifted with beautifully hand-knitted scarves from the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day team.

“It is such a pleasure and privilege to participate in this small way in honouring the legacy of Madiba by bringing communities together, stitch by stitch,” said Trudy Boshoff, a Knit Wit and representative of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

Each scarf was crafted with love and care from KnitWits across the country, and outside SA’s borders, to spread warmth, hope and joy throughout the country.

“Providing necessities and opportunities for the less fortunate, as well as fostering hands-on involvement is a pattern followed by KnitWits of all ages. We thank the school for welcoming us so enthusiastically and to partner with them in their efforts to bundle up against the cold this winter,” said Trudy.

The circuit manager, Nompucuko Sithole, thanked the KnitWits for their thoughtful donation and congratulated the school’s staff for their continued dedication to its learners.

The school’s principal, Arti Jadoo, said., “Our heartfelt thanks to the team from the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day for blessing our learners with much needed winter woolies. I make a special appeal to the kind souls out there to gift our school and the community with their unneeded items of clothing. We will accept anything with great respect,” she said.
