Three sentenced to 12 years for Inchanga business robbery

The three accused were also arrested for double murder, but were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

THREE men, who were arrested for business robbery and the double murder of two foreign nationals in Inchanga in 2015, were sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for business robbery by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday.

Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the three accused; Sanele Mkhize (31), Lwazi Ngubane (22) and Siyabonga Ngubane (23) were convicted and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for business robbery by the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

“The three men were arrested after a tuck shop was robbed in Inchanga and two victims were shot dead and a vehicle and other items were stolen from the tuck shop.

“A case of business robbery and murder was opened at the Inchanga police station for investigation. Few days later police received information about two of the suspects who were involved in the robbery and who are brothers,” said Manqele.

A Nissan 1400 bakkie, that was stolen during the robbery, and other items were recovered.

“Lwazi and Siyabonga were arrested and charged for business robbery and a double murder. Mkhize was found in the Port Shepstone area where he was arrested for attempted carjacking. All three suspects appeared in court and were denied bail. The accused made several appearances in court before they were convicted for business robbery,” said Manqele.

The third accused Sanele Mkhize was also sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for the attempted carjacking that took place in Port Shepstone. All accused were acquitted for double murder due to insufficient evidence.
