Kloof SPCA supporters pledge 100 hours for Dog Box challenge

Help Shane Cox and Pierre Venter-Maher reach their Dog Box Challenge fund-raising goal for the Kloof and Highway SPCA.

AVID Kloof and Highway SPCA supporters, Shane Cox and Pierre Venter-Maher, are going above and beyond the norm as they have pledged to be caged for 100 hours to raise funds for the animal welfare organisation.

Each year, Durbanites are voluntarily locked up in one of the kennels at the Kloof and Highway SPCA for 24 hours, all in the name of charity.

Last year, the duo clocked up an impressive 48 hours and this year they have raised the bar even higher.

“This year, we pledge 100 hours, which is well over four days in a tiny cage for the Kloof and Highway SPCA,” said Shane.

In early March they could be found at Watercrest Mall for 24 hours, last week they took up a corner section at the NPN Auto Centre for 28 hours, they will be at Westville Mall on 24 and 25 May and will complete their last 24-hour stretch at the non-profit organisation itself.

“It costs more than a million Rand a month to keep them operational and, in doing so, do extraordinary things for our furry friends. They really need us so much,” said Pierre.

Shane said, “We do this event in memory of the late Cherise Cox, who was a Durban Metro Police Dog Unit Member, and for all men and women and animals in the emergency services who have passed on for the sake of our community and beautiful country.”

Both men are former South African Police Service members who worked in and with the SAPS Dog Unit to combat crime.

“We need all of your support. With only a few months to go, please consider assisting us before and during March, April and May, whether in your private or business capacity,” said Pierre.

Their target is R10 000 and hope to try again for R10 000 each.

“We plan to exceed all expectations this year!” said a determined Shane.
