Sign up now for Hillcrest Rotary charity relay

The Rotary Club of Hillcrest's second annual charity relay is only in September, but the club urges athletes to begin fund-raising now for their chosen charity.

THE Rotary Club of Hillcrest has announced the details of its second Charity Challenge Relay, to be held on Saturday, 21 September.

The inaugural event raised more than R50 000 for various well-deserved charities.

The president of the Rotary Club of Hillcrest, William Gibson, said the opportunity to raise substantially more funds for charity is an exciting prospect for the club. The involvement of corporates, social clubs and schools also created various dimensions of strong team building opportunities for all participants.

The nominated charities include CHOC, Highway Hospice, Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust, LIV Village, Project Rhino and Rotary Projects.

The format for the Charity Challenge consists of a team of five runners and each runner will complete a 5km lap to raise funds by way of sponsorship. All funds raised go directly to the nominated charity. The cost of entry is R200 per person or R100 per scholar.

Project co-ordinator, Rob Campbell, said, “The date of the Charity Challenge is 21 September, so we are allowing plenty of time for the teams to register and be organised. It is targeted at everyone, including novices, as the distance is only 5km per runner.”
