Man accused of murdering baby, stabbing mother appears at Pinetown Court

The man stabbed the mother in her thigh when she tried to stop him.

A MAN in his 40s appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 February  for allegedly killing a 14-month-old baby and stabbing the mother on 9 February.

The suspect was remanded in custody until 19 February for mental observation.

“It is alleged that at 7.30am, the baby boy was sleeping in his room in Indundumo, Clermont while his mother was busy outside the home doing her laundry. She heard the child crying hysterically and went to investigate. She was shocked to find the suspect, who is a relative, stabbing her little baby,” said KZN police spokesperson, Col Thembeka Mbele.

According to the police, the mother attempted to stop the suspect but he became violent and stabbed her in her thigh.

“Both victims were rushed to hospital however the baby later succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was arrested at the scene by KwaDabeka police for murder and attempted murder,” Mbele added.
