WATCH: SADTU members protest outside Pinetown school

The SADTU members are fighting on behalf of the 11 assistant teachers who were 'retrenched' in December.

SOUTH African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) members have gathered outside Pinetown Senior Primary with banners asking for the redeployment of 11 assistant teachers who were ‘retrenched’ among other issues.

Although the Highway Mail learnt that the assistant teachers contracts ended in December, the assistant teachers said they have taken this matter to the CCMA and raised it with the Department of Education.

“We have been told that the school does not have the money to continue paying our salaries. We have needs, families to feed and most of us are paying for our education through our pockets so we need this job,” said an assistant teacher.

The protest is currently peaceful as the protesters were allowing the learners in to continue with their school work.

The school has been contacted for comment and we will publish an update as soon as they respond.
