Bellair CPF is KZN’s best

"In as much as we have reason to celebrate the award, there is still lots more work to do."

BELLAIR Community Policing Forum (BPF) was recently awarded first place in the South African Police Service (SAPS) provincial excellence awards.

The management and staff of Bellair SAPS said it was grateful for the efforts of the community through the CPF in Bellair.

Sgt Pam Pillay, spokesperson for Bellair SAPS, said the police agree that the CPF has, in its endeavour to promote cooperation between the community and police, helped to pave the way for greater success.

“We at SAPS Bellair have established an unyielding partnership with the community of Bellair which has resulted positively. The community of Bellair has committed to enhancing service delivery by adopting a joint responsibility attitude towards ensuring community safety. They have also participated in many community-based events,” said Pillay citing as examples the public service day, crime awareness day and the recently launched 16 days of activism campaign.

“It is indeed an honour to be working with a community which is ever so willing to assist.”

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the CPF and the community of Bellair on their well-deserved award. It is an achievement which should also inspire other communities and CPF’s to work together to achieve this common goal that we are all striving toward.”

SAPS Bellair would like to wish the community of Bellair a safe festive season.

“We thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to a sustainable partnership in the years ahead.”

Malclom Naidoo, chairman of the CPF, said the acknowledgement is humbling.

“Recognition has to be given to all members of our CPF who continue to partner with SAPS in the fight against crime,” said Naidoo. He said the role of the CPF is also to keep the police accountable to the community.

“The relationship with the community and the station has vastly improved in the past two years – mainly thanks to the station commander.

“Our CPF has an excellent working relationship with Metro Police’s Captain Rungasami, ward councillors Samantha Winvogel and Gavin Hegter, and SAPS Bellair under the command of Lt Col Ramchunde,” said Naidoo.

“In the new year, we as the CPF want to put the award behind us and hit the ground running with projects and continue to establish strong neighborhood watches and Sector Forums.

Naidoo said winning the award didn’t mean the work was over.

“In as much as we have reason to celebrate the award, there is still lots more work to do – so we call on the community to support us in whichever way they can,” he said.
