AK47 wielding suspects open fire on vehicle in Shongweni, one dead

The four people in the vehicle were on their way home from the funeral of Mariannhill police officer Bhekisigcino Khwela in KwaNdengezi when they were attacked.

TWO people were injured and one died in hospital after a shooting on Milky Way Road in Shongweni on Sunday, 28 October.

It is reported that suspects opened fire on four family members who were travelling back home from the funeral of Mariannhill SAPS officer, Bhekisigcino Khwela in KwaNdengezi.

Khwela was shot and killed last week in the KwaNdengezi area.

“Unknown suspects used an AK47 and a 9mm pistol to open fire on the victims’ vehicle.”

“The driver, whose vehicle was being shot at, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the gate of a property.”

“Three people were injured during the shooting. Their friends arrived at the scene and transported them to hospital,” said Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

KZN police spokesperson, Lt col Thulani Zwane said KwaNdengezi SAPS are investigating one count of murder and three of attempted murder.
