Pitch in for fund-raiser

The Westville Boys' High School matriculant needs your help to compete in the U23 baseball world cup.

RISING baseball star, Dylan O’Brien, was hand-picked as a member of the SA U23 team and is excited to represent his country at the World Baseball Softball Confederation U23 Baseball World Cup in October.

Dylan trains on his own during the week, from running and fitness to throwing. Pitching is where his strength lies as his top speed is 81 miles (130km) per hour.

He represented South Africa at the U18 Baseball World Cup last year in Canada and now is one of the youngest players to represent the SA U23 team.

“I am the youngest person competing in the team and when I do get the chance to pitch, I am going to be giving it my all,” said the confident teen.

To raise funds for his trip, there is a golf fund-raiser at the Camelot Golf Course on Friday, 28 September from 10.30am.

Funds raised will by used to send the Westville Boys’ High School matriculant to compete in the U23 Baseball World Cup in Columbia. The cost is R325 per person or R1 300 per four-ball. This includes dinner and prizes.

You can also sponsor a hole on the course. The first and ninth hole are R1 000 and all other holes are R600 each. Or, you can donate prizes.

“We need to raise R35 000 for the trip and so for that reason we are hosting a golf day,” said his proud dad, Dale.
