Hijackers flee with 4-year-old girl in New Germany

The Highway Mail has been unable to verify social media rumours claiming that the child has been found.

PINETOWN police have confirmed a child was abducted during a hijacking this morning.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged the victim was driving along Dinkelman Road at about 7.15am when he was blocked off by a Golf 7 vehicle.

“Four suspects pointed firearms at him  and took his vehicle with a 4-year-old child inside,” said Manqele.

A case of hijacking was opened at Pinetown SAPS.

Rumours have since started circulating on social media claiming the child had been found, however the Highway Mail has not been able to get confirmation from police.

Updates to follow.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
