Villagers win Keith Parkinson Cup

THE Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers 2nd XV beat PMB Collegians 29 – 17 at the Hollywood Bets Murray Cup Knockout Tournament at the Crusaders Rugby Club in Durban North.

The game kicked off with a difficult and scrappy start and the first half quickly became a test of endurance.

At half time, following a few words of wisdom from Coach Nic Tyler, manager Brian Haradine, captain Chaise McLaughlin and club captain, Brian Lewis (playing as #9) did the trick.

A settled and confident Villagers’ side ran out onto the park in the second half, with one objective in mind: to dominate the opposition and make the game theirs.

The local team was dominant in their forward drives, with the backs attacking space and defending their channels. While the entire team were elected as Man of the Match, special mention was made of JP Brown, who scored two of the tries.

In the curtain raiser to the Murray Cup Final, (between Dbn Collegians & Rovers), the Hollywood Bets Invitational XV played the Castle Lager Invitational XV.

The Villagers XV captain, Jono Deighton, played for the Hollywood Bets XV and was nominated Man of the Match while the Villagers’ 1st XV manager, Kaycee Dalrymple-Kelly, managed the star-studded outfit.

The Villagers will host their 2018 AGM and prize-giving on Friday, 7 September at the Durban Shongweni Club from 6pm.
