Six ways to make your bed a cosy place!

South Africa is in the middle of winter and we are feeling it mostly at night, where we all still have summer bedding, but evenings are getting cooler. Everyone hates climbing out of their warm beds on dark winter mornings, but the worst thing is climbing out of bed already feeling cold.

Here are some tips you can try to beat the Winter blues:

Get a quality duvet to keep you cozy:

A thick, soft, warm duvet just makes everything better!
We all want to sleep under a duvet that keeps us cosy and warm, so that we can wake up with a good night’s rest behind us.

Waking up cold is the worst:

You don’t want to get up and be even colder, but your bed just isn’t satisfying enough to want to stay in either, and sometimes the duvet doesn’t seem to be good enough.
Your duvet inner might be the issue at hand. Instead of piling on extra blankets, rather buy a new duvet inner, and sleep perfectly warm or cool without fuss. Micofibre Duvet inners are considered the best, especially in South Africa where they can adjust to suit all seasons. Microfibre duvet inners are cool in summer, and warm and comforting in the winter.

Buy a good duvet cover:

Not only should your duvet inner be of the right material to keep you warm, but so should your cover. A 100% cotton duvet cover is easy to wash, breathable, cosy in winter and cool in summer, soft on the skin and will last for decades. Climbing into bed and having a crisp duvet hugging you is one of the best feelings in the world, so don’t settle for anything less!

Get a snuggly blanky:

For extra comfort and relaxation during the day and night, get a fleece blanket for the foot of your bed. Fleece blankets keep heat really well and together with your duvet, they will make you warm during the night.

Make sure that you don’t have sheet linen!

Your bed sheets make a big difference on how well you sleep. A breathable and soft fitted sheet under you keeps you from tossing and turning, and keeps you warm and comfortable. Winter sheets are made from flannel , and are softer and cosier than percale cotton sheets. Get a soft winter sheet to sleep on as well as a fluffy top sheet that will keep you much warmer in winter since it adds an extra layer of insulation and heat storage

Add a mattress topper:

A mattress toppers adds comfort and warmth. Get a memory foam mattress topper for warmth at night, and save on your electricity bill by not using an electric blanket. You will feel cuddled and soft, the foam will help with your back alignment, leading to a pain free back and better day.

Get a mattress protector:

A mattress protector makes a cosier bed as well as a safer one. You can buy a noise free and totally waterproof mattress protector that comes in a towelled and a quilted fabric that will add an extra layer of softness on top of your mattress. The feeling however is just a bonus, the true purpose of the protector is actually to keep your mattress safe. Mattress manufactures consider guarantees and warranties void if the mattress is stained, and also, a wet mattress will not dry quickly on a nippy winter’s day.
