Dancer ends champs on a high

Kaylee Walker claimed two trophies at the Highland Dancing Championships recently.

WESTVILLE’s Kaylee Walker recently took the title for overall SA Champ at the annual 87th South African Highland Dancing Championships.

The 12-year-old is a student at the Heather Walker Studio of Highland Dancing.

At the championships in Benoni, Kaylee won the highland section and received the Conchie Trophy. She then won the national section and received the Barrowman Shield and became the overall SA Champ for the 2018 in the novice 12 years and under category.

Kaylee said she loves Highland as it is a unique dance form.

Her mother, Heather Walker, and her grandmother were Highland and Scottish country dancers too. She said her mother, who is also her teacher, inspired her to become the best dancer she can be.
