Pinehaven Society’s good ‘wool’ spreads warmth

Dozens of children will have exquisitely crafted knitwear to help keep them warm this winter.

A GROUP of dedicated women from Pinehaven Society worked deftly to create dozens of beautifully knitted winter-wear for children in need.

This outreach initiative has been a joint project between the residents at Pinehaven and the Rotary Club of Pinetown for years.

The Rotary Club donates R2 000 towards the purchase of wool and the seasoned knitters dive right in, a few even invite their friends to take part in the knitting frenzy.

The women create beanies, cardigans, jerseys and baby clothes.

According to the Rotary Club’s Jean Senogles, the clothing for infants are divided between Hope Home and The Baby House Westville. The bigger clothing is distributed to orphanages and creches in the Highway area.

“It never fails to amaze me how kind and generous people are!” exclaimed Jean. “This programme has been going on for ages and it has just continued to snowball.”

The Pinehaven Society’s manager, Helen Smith, said, “I am exceedingly excited by this project and by the enthusiasm of the residents. Sometimes they bring in all of these garments and ask for even more wool so they can do more.”

To donate any wool, from baby wool to chunky, contact the Pinehaven Society on 031 701 7561.
