Teachers improve their digital skills

Twenty-four teachers from KwaNdengezi spent two days of their June holidays learning some basic computer science skills.

TO make use of digital resources more effectively and enhance the teaching skills of educators, SchoolNet SA has been working with teachers from 12 schools in KwaNdengezi supported by the Rotary Club of Pinetown.

As part of a Microsoft Philanthropies YouthSpark project, 24 teachers spent two days of their June holidays learning some basic computer science skills at Hillcrest High School to share with their learners.

SchoolNet SA facilitators, Hlengiwe Mfeka and Senzo Ngcobo said these workshops were a great success.

The teachers were assisted by the facilitators to register on the Microsoft Educator Community (MEC).

The workshop was officially opened by Dr Thami Nkabinde of the MST&ICT Directorate of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.

“Participants were stunned by the numerous resources available for them in the MEC website. One of the teachers even pointed out that it was not worth wasting money enrolling for computer courses because everything I need is here at the MEC,” said Mfeka.
