The centre management said pavilion security were called to remove the officer who was then taken by Westville SAPS into their custody.

PAVILION management have confirmed that the policeman, who ‘passed out’ outside the mall, was found at the centre within the parking area.

The centre’s marketing manager, Julie-Anne Zuma said the management can confirm that a policeman in uniform was allegedly found intoxicated within the parking area at The Pavilion on Thursday, 26 July at approximately  1pm.

Westville CPF chairman, Alex Gloster  said there has been a lot of interest in a social media post doing the rounds, about a member of the SAPS and his supposed incapacitation.

He said the CPF is concerned, but will not be drawn into speculation.

Gloster said it is reassuring that the SAPS have the same concerns and interests in determining what may have transpired.

“To this end the SAPS have appointed senior officers to investigate the matter, in accordance with their procedures. It is not expected that the details of an internal matter will be made public, but it is gratifying that this is enjoying significant internal attention, with our peace of mind and safety as key considerations,” said Gloster.
