Geek out at ICON

The family friendly event is a perfect place to spend your weekend.

MAKE your way to ICON Durban at the Old Mutual Sports Hall near UKZN from Friday, 27 to Sunday, 29 July.

There will be retailers selling their wares over the course of the weekend. Items on sale include board games and card games, geek clothing and merchandising, 3D printers, books, comics and graphic novels, handmade crafts and so much more.

An artists alley will include artists from across the country who have joined in to offer custom artwork and commissions.

For those that enjoy a bit of e-gaming, there is a 52-hour LAN, with Counter Strike and DOTA tournaments, Playstation and XBox console tournaments and retro gaming stations.

There is Fight a Knight where competitors don authentic metal armour and face off against a knight with sword and shield in the arena.

For Harry Potter fans, take a stroll through Diagon Alley, participate in Quidditch trials, buy a few chocolate covered frogs or even build your own wand.

Various tournaments and casual gaming sessions for Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Yugioh, Warhammer and various board games.

There is also a free play area with more than 100 board games available to play, free of charge. Roleplayers unite at the four-hour sessions of Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder and Starfinder.

If you start feeling peckish, there is also a food court with a variety of vendors.

The hall will open on Friday, 27 from noon until 9pm, on Saturday, 28 from 9am to 6pm and on Sunday, 29 from 9am to 5pm. The cost for a day pass is R80 per person, a weekend pass is R120, a group pass (four tickets) is R500 (online only), E-gaming day passes are R120, E-Gaming 52-hour pass is R350 and childrend under 8 enter free.
