Fabulous reads – Drinkwater’s mystery will captivate you

Book review - The Lost Girl by Carol Drinkwater.

The Lost Girl, Carol Drinkwater, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9780718183103

Lost Girl is a poignant and beautiful read by Drinkwater.

We follow a stilted timeline of past and present between the two protagonists, Kurtiz Ross and Marguerite.

Ross is a celebrated political photographer. Her daughter went missing without a trace four years ago and for the first time, there has been a sighting in Paris. Ross travels there with the intention of meeting her estranged ex-husband but instead gets thrown into the frontline of a series of terrorist attacks.

Marguerite is a stranger that offers to assist Ross during the pandemonium caused by the attacks.

Readers will easily immerse themselves into Marguerite’s sad and tragic past.

While hopping between past and present as well as between characters, the truth of Lizzie’s disappearance is uncovered.

Ross’s story is so real, raw and complicated.

There is never a right or wrong answer and with every decision she makes, you have to watch helplessly as the destruction that you know is coming eventually rears its ugly head. Marguerite’s story was exquisite and heart-breaking all at the same time.

A solid and comfortable three stars for Drinkwater’s mystery and drama-filled Lost Girl.
