Lyndhurst learners research potential careers

The children researched potential careers they hoped to pursue after school.

LYNDHURST Primary School hosted a Careers Day for Grade 7 learners on Friday, 18 May.

The Grade 7 life orientation teacher, Nonhlanhla Ngongoma, said she chose this topic to help the children research what they would like to be when they grow older.

She said the children had to present their research about what subjects they would have to study for that specific career choice, find out how many points they would have to achieve in order to study that career at university level, the amount of years they would require to study for in order to graduate for their qualification, the salary their prospective careers offer and lastly the advantages and disadvantages of that specific career.

School principal, Dr Sara Moodley, the said: “It is crucial that learners at this age (between 12 and 13 years) are empowered with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to select a career according to their academic ability as well as their personality.”

The children gathered at the school on Friday, dressed in their finest, from pilots, teachers, chartered accounts, to doctors, nurses, lawyers and even the military.
