‘Toe-tally’ great save by Kloof SPCA

The feathery friend was brought into the local NPO and X-rays were done to ascertain the damage.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA’s clinic recently treated a peacock that was brought in with a broken toe.

According to the NPO’s marketing and fund-raising officer Brigitte Ferguson, the peacock was sent for X-rays and, due to the nature of the fracture, the veterinarian, Dr. Anderson, decided it was best to amputate the toe.

“A tourniquet was carefully placed around the leg during surgery to keep blood loss to a minimal,” said Brigitte.

The surgery was a success and the handsome peacock was sent home and continues to lead a normal life.
