Man killed in Westville house blaze

The Fire Department are investigating how the fire started.

A SEVENTY-year-old man was killed after a fire gutted a home on Serpentine Road in Westville earlier today.

Garrith Jamieson, of Rescue Care Paramedics said the man died due to the severe burns he suffered during the fire.

“Rescue Care Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the Durban Fire Department already in attendance. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Durban Fire Department. A man in his 70s was killed as a result of severe burns. He was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. No other injuries were sustained,” said Jamieson.

At this stage the events leading up to the fire are unknown however SAPS and Durban Fire Department will be investigating further.
