TAKE NOTE: Protest action on the M19, Umgeni Road

The situation is volatile and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

MOTORISTS are advised to avoid the M19 near Clare Road east bound to Durban in the the vicinity of the Shell Garage.

According to Marshall Security, protestors have embarked on violent action and are burning tyres and portable toilets, in response to what is believed to be the demolishing of shacks in the informal settlement.

Police are in attendance and are using tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the angry crowd.

 

One man, 35, is believed to have sustained multiple injuries from rubber bullets and has been transported to Addington Hospital.

The M19 is closed to traffic heading towards the city. The situation is volatile and motorists are advised to use alternative routes.
