Thomas More celebrates milestone

There was cake, biscuits and a morning of fun activities for the primary school learners as they celebrated the primary school's 25th birthday.

THOMAS More College (TMC) was a hive of activity as its primary school celebrated its 25th anniversary recently.

The school opened its doors in 1993 when the high school faced a near closure and was looking to reinvent itself.

The senior primary guest speaker on this special 25th birthday occasion was Melanie Küster (neè Zietsmann) who started primary school in Grade 4 in 1994, during the school’s second year.

“Three of her original teachers are still doing a marvellous job teaching on our staff,” said Thomas More College’s marketing co-ordinator, Kim Hooper.

Melanie is a proud past learner and matriculated in 2002, married a past learner, has two children at TMC, is the chairman of the Past Pupils’ Association and serves on the board.

She spoke passionately about the “good old days” and reminisced about the time there were only about 70 learners in the primary school as a whole.

Deni Hornsey shared some history with the Foundation Phase chatting about Sir Thomas More and the school badge.

The children sang happy birthday to the primary school after the birthday cake was cut by Melanie and every learner received a birthday treat.
