Families want Metro officer to face the law

Cindy Pamella Radebe and Clayton Luke Saville were killed in a collision which involved a Metro vehicle.

THE Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will open a case of failure to report a matter which includes a Metro officer who was involved in a collision that claimed two lives in New Germany on Tuesday, 27 March.

Cindy Pamella Radebe and Clayton Luke Saville were returning from work when the accident took place on Shepstone Road near Chelsea Avenue.

Rescue Care Paramedics who responded to the scene said Clayton and Cindy were entrapped in the wreckage, suffered major injuries and passed away due to the severity of their injuries.

Clayton’s sister, Melissa-Re’zay Saville, said the family will not rest until justice is done as they feel that this accident is being covered up.

“The Metro police vehicle that was involved in the accident has vanished and no one knows where it is. When my sister-in-law went to the accident scene in the morning, hours after the accident, everything was cleared, even a wall that the cars smashed into was already fixed.

“The first docket went missing and we had to open another case. Police are aware of the video that shows what happened on that night, but we are being ignored and kept in the dark.

Melissa said the two other occupants who were in her brother’s car are still in hospital and in a coma.

“Till today, no one has given us any proper information and it is only when we put something up on social media that we receive a call and we get the same information that we already know.”

Melissa said they are not only demanding justice for their family but also for Cindy and the other two occupants who were in the car.

“Cindy, the only breadwinner has left four young children behind. My brother was the only breadwinner also and his two children have been robbed of a father. Two other people are fighting for their lives in hospital.”

Talking about her only sibling, Melissa said she has lost her hero. “Clayton was a lovely, humble person who never got into trouble with anyone. Everyone who knew him from the community, work and school would tell you the same thing about him,” said the distraught sister.

Speaking to the Highway Mail on Monday, Cindy’s brother, Chris said this incident hit them very hard.

“We are preparing to bury my mother now. After Cindy’s passing, her health really deteriorated. My sister was a lovely person who loved people, especially her family and children.

“She co-owned the company she worked for and took care of the whole family, she was truly our pillar,” he said.

Chris also shared his concerns about the lack of communication about this case.

“We heard that the officer involved is out of hospital. We do not know if she has been charged and when she is appearing in court,” he said.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) national spokesman, Moses Dlamini, took over the investigation a few days ago after he became aware of the incident.

The IPID is also going to open a case of failure to report a matter that should be reported to the IPID against the responsible officer.

“Once the aforesaid investigations have been completed, depending on the evidence, the matters will be referred to the NPA for decisions on prosecution,” said Dlamini.
