Wyebank residents show spirit of Ubuntu

The residents said people need to support one another during their time of need and not depend on the government all the time.

THE Rainbow Gardens community in Wyebank got together to complete building a house after the owner died in a car accident last year.

The owner of the house, Mbali Dlangisa, was a single mother of four.

Mbali’s only sister, Zodwa Dlangisa, said she started building this house so that her children can have a place they can call home as they were renting before.

“Mbali did not want our children to not have a proper home but unfortunately she passed away soon after she started building this house,” said Dlangisa.

The mother of two said she has no words to describe her happiness and gratitude for the community.

“I have never seen anything like this, the love that they have shown us is indescribable. They brighten my life and have become my second family, they even cook food for the people that are building the house,” said Dlangisa.

Rainbow Gardens resident, Thembinkosi Mkhanya, said they were prompted to stand up and do something about this matter when they noticed a sale board that was mistakenly placed next to the house.

“We got together, traced the family and decided to help. We had a huge response from this community, everyone has been so supportive by donating items and money.

“One of the residents, Abner Mpanza, is a plumber and has given his time willingly and offered his services for free.

Another resident, Siphiwe Mthimkhulu, approached Crown Discount Hardware in New Germany who were touched by this initiative and donated roof tiles, plumbing material, doors and window frames.

And a third resident, Muzi Maphumulo, who is also the Pinetown SAPS communications officer, said this shows that if people unite anything is possible.

“We need to show the spirit of Ubuntu to one another to make our country a better place,” he said.

Residents said this is as an ongoing project and they would be grateful if other people or companies can lend a helping hand as the four-bedroom house still needs roof tiles, plastering, floor tiles and furniture.
