Pinetown man reunited with his ‘lucky’ wallet

A Blue Security reaction officer found the wallet lying on Underwood Road.

A PINETOWN man, Mike Marnitz was sixth time lucky when his wallet made its way back to him.

Blue Security reaction officer spotted the wallet lying in Underwood Road.

With the help of the Pine Ridge Neighbourhood Watch, Marnitz was tracked down and reunited with his wallet.

Marnitz said he was riding his motorbike last Saturday and had his wallet tucked in his jacket pocket, but when he got home it was nowhere to be found.

“When I reached home I realised it was gone and it had all my bank cards and my driver’s licence in it. I have had my wallet for years and it has been lost about five times and somehow or other it has always comes back to me,” said Marnitz.

He said he did not believe that he would find his wallet this time.

Nevertheless, to his surprise, his ‘lucky’ wallet was returned to him for the sixth time.

Marnitz said he spoke to someone who told him that details of a wallet was being circulated on his local Pineridge Neighbourhood Watch social media network.

The patrolling officer, who has asked to remain anonymous, said he was on a routine patrol in Underwood Road when he spotted the wallet lying in busy the road. He picked it up and went on a mission to find the owner.

Pineridge Neighbourhood Watch group member Karen Bole, who was patrolling the area at the time, stopped to speak to the officer who was battling to locate the owner.

“He called the numbers that he found inside the wallet but there was no answer, so we sent the information to our administrator and it was circulated on our WhatsApp group and we shared it on Facebook with other neighbourhood watch groups. Someone saw it and contacted him and it turned out he was from our area,” Bole said.

Marnitz met with the armed response officer and received his wallet with all his valuables safely intact.

“I can’t explain how happy I am. I wish to thank the armed response officer and the neighbourhood watch for tracing me and returning my wallet,” said Marnitz.

Bole said the incident was just one example of the neighbourhood watch group’s strong rapport and teamwork with the security company.
