Prominent businessman shot, elderly mom-in-law killed in Westville home invasion

Prominent jeweller, Imran Randeree is fighting for his life at St Augustine's Hospital after being shot in a home invasion last night.

A 63-YEAR-old woman was fatally shot and her son-in-law remains in critical condition in hospital after two robbers stormed their Westville North home last night.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka  Mbhele said it is believed that the complainant, a well-known businessman, Imran Randeree (43) of Randeree Jewellers and his family were at their residence in Duncan Drive, when they noticed two unknown men forcing the door open around 9.25pm.

“The complainant and his mother-in-law instructed the other family members to hide while they pushed the door. The suspects opened fired, fatally wounding his mother-in-law and he also sustained gunshots wounds,” said Mbhele.

The mother-in-law’s name is Rookaya Dhooma.

The suspects stole a cellphone before they fled the crime scene on foot. Imran, who is a well-known businessman of a jewellery store was rushed to the hospital.

“A case of house robbery, attempted murder and murder were opened at Westville police station for investigation. No arrests or recoveries have been made as yet,” said Mbhele.
