Man shot dead, wife injured in Hillcrest shooting

The man in his 50s was shot twice in the head sustained a gunshot wound to her upper arm.

HILLCREST Police are appealing to the community about information that could lead to the arrest of the gunman or men who shot and killed a Hammarsdale Taxi Association chairman on Monday.

Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to reports of a shooting on Monday evening.

“They found police already on scene.”

“A 50-year-old man was shot twice in the head, he was assessed on scene and found to have no signs of life and was declared deceased on the scene.”

His wife also sustained a gunshot wound to her upper arm.

“She was transported to hospital,” said Herbst.

Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Capt Linzi Smith said the motive is suspected to be taxi related issues.

“The man was shot in his house in KwaNgcolosi, Hillcrest. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened, police are still investigating and no one has been arrested,” said Smith.
