Ashley man arrested for sexually assaulting seven-year-old girl

The man allegedly slapped the girl three times across the face when she refused to take off her pants.

A 45-YEAR-OLD Ashley man was arrested yesterday, (Wednesday, 14 February) and charged for the sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Mazwi Mbatha, it is alleged a seven-year-old girl was at the Ashley sports ground with her grandmother in January.

“She told her grandmother that she was craving snacks so her granny gave her R7 to buy food from the tuck shop. When the little girl went to the tuck shop, she was snatched by the 45-year-old man who took her to the restrooms at the sports ground and begged her to take off her pants. When the girl refused, he slapped her three times across the face,” Mbatha said.

“The granny, who was waiting outside the sports field, started getting worried when her granddaughter did not return from the shop and went looking for her. To her surprise, she found her granddaughter in the restrooms with this man. She confronted the man and he also beat her,” said Mbatha.

A case was opened at Pinetown SAPS. The Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and sexual Offences Unit (FCS) began investigations which led to the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday.

In another incident, Pinetown police arrested two men aged between 18 and 27 for house-breaking and theft.

“The suspects broke into a house in Nazareth yesterday, (Wednesday, 14 February) and stole a microwave and sold it. On the same day, while the police were working along Wyebank Road , they noticed a-20-year old man carrying a bag. On searching the man’s bag they found copper cables. They questioned him about where he got the cables from and he failed to give a proper explanation. He was then arrested,” said Mbatha.

Another man (35) was arrested, also yesterday, for possession of a suspected stolen gate remote control.
