Ward 10 councillor resigns
There will be a by-election in Ward 10 within the next 90 days to elect a new ward councillor.
RICK Crouch, the DA councillor for Ward 10, resigned on Sunday, 4 February, with immediate effect.
In a press statement, he said it has been a difficult decision for him and was made after a consultation with his family.
“There are numerous reasons for my decision. The most compelling is the fact that, although being a councillor is legislated and paid as a part-time job, the demands on your time are enormous, and it has come to a point where there are just not enough hours in the day,” said Crouch.
He added that his business is a high pressure one and demands a lot of his time.

Crouch said much of his schedule is dictated by the courts around the country where there are criminal and civil cases he is working on. He said he felt the community would be better served by a ward councillor that had more time to dedicate to their issues.
“It has been an honour to serve the residents of eThekwini and in particular Ward 10, and a big thank you to those who have supported me over these past eight years. I would also like to thank the Democratic Alliance for giving me the opportunity to serve the residents of Ward 10,” said Crouch.
By-election
There will be a by-election in Ward 10 within the next 90 days to elect a new ward councillor. Crouch urged those who are critical of council and think that councillors could do more, to put their name forward as a candidate. You can do that on the party ticket by being a DA member in good standing, or it can be done as an independent. As an independent, you need only 50 signatures and R500 to have your name added to the ballot.
