Haggarts celebrate diamond anniversary

June Haggart said the secret to their long and happy marriage is lots of love and ‘give and take’.

PINETOWN residents, June and Jimmy Haggart, have been married for 60 years this year, having met when June was 14 and Jimmy was 16.

They were always best friends and although June lived in Broken Hill in Northern Rhodesia and Jimmy lived in Bulawayo in Southern Rhodesia, they corresponded regularly.

They got engaged in 1956 and in 1957 June moved to Bulawayo. They married in Bulawayo on 1 February 1958 where their two daughters were born and then moved to Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia in 1961.

They have lived in Pinetown since they came to South Africa in 1966.

June says the secret to their long and happy marriage is lots of love and ‘give and take’ and if she had to do it again she would not change a thing.

June and Jimmy said they were blessed to enjoy the love of their family – two daughters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

They celebrated their 60 years of marriage on Thursday, 1 February.
