Five injured in Westville crash

The driver of the one vehicle was entrapped in the wreckage with critical injuries.

FIVE people were injured, one critically, when two vehicles collided on Blair Atholl Road near the Shell Garage in Westville earlier today.

Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care Paramedics said they were called to the scene around 10.30am.

He said when paramedics arrived, they found one vehicle on the pavement and the second vehicle down an embankment.

“The driver of the one vehicle was entrapped in the wreckage with critical injuries. While Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the vehicle the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to free the man. The man was then placed on a manual ventilator before being rushed to a nearby hospital,” said Jamieson.

Four other people were also injured and stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals.

Events leading up to the collision is unknown however SAPS were on the scene and will investigate.
