WATCH: Protestors block New Germany roads over job dispute

MOTORISTS have been urged to avoid Qashana Khuzwayo (Shepstone Road) in the Clermont and KwaDabeka intersections as people are protesting.

It has been reported, people who are protesting are residents from KwaDabeka, who want to be included in an upcoming road development project.

Ward 21 councillor, Mfanah Qwabe said the people protesting are from Ward 19 and 20 who were part of the Dumisani Makhaye Drive project.

“Now that the work is moving to this ward, they demand to be employed. The project has not even started and people who reside in this ward also need to reap the fruit of this job opportunity.

“They have also been rewarded in the roadworks project as it was finished recently. We will also be hiring people from other areas besides Ward 21 once the site has been established”

Qwabe said he will be engaging with the councillors from those areas to discuss a solution.

Police are currently on scene to monitor the situation.
