Wanted robber nabbed by Westville police

"Gwababa" was remanded into police custody for seven days for further investigations.

WESTVILLE detectives, led by dedicated D/Captain Sebenzokuhle Mthembu and his team of six, made a major breakthrough in their Festive Season crime drive when a wanted criminal known as “Gwababa” was arrested last Thursday night during an operation.

Capt Elizabeth Squires, Westville SAPS communications officer, said police believe this breakthrough will be able to close a lot of existing cases and they expect the crime trend in Berea West to take a dip.

“This suspect has been the ring-leader of a spate of house robberies and housebreaking in the Berea West area for a few months.

Gwababa (his street name) has been positively linked to numerous cases in Westville and Cato Manor,” said Squires.

Gwababa appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on charges of house robbery and housebreaking on Monday, 18 December.

However, he was remanded into police custody for seven days for further investigations.

“D/Captain Sebenzokuhle Mthembu and his team have been applauded for their excellent work,” said Squires.
