Madison tears up the dance floor

Local dancer, Madison Bromfield, and her dancing partners, Siphosethu Ncgobo and Sibusiso Ndlovu, raked in awards at a national competition in Pretoria recently.

MADISON Bromfield was born to dance and her star will only continue to rise after she competed and won awards at the SADTA All South African Championship in Pretoria recently.

The 16-year-old competed in the Rising Star Adult Championship with her ballroom partner, Siphosethu Ncgobo.

The dancing duo won first place, winning all five dances after fighting hard for their spot in the final.

Madison also won the Youth Rising Star Latin Championship with her Latin partner, Sibusiso Ndlovu.

She has been dancing since she was three.

Her grandmother is a former Latin and ballroom dancer and said Madison needed to first learn the art of ballet before she leapt into other dance styles.

She learnt ballet in the kitchen until she was seven years old and was finally allowed to start ballroom and Latin lessons.

She was born premature which resulted in bad eyesight and she needed to wear glasses from 16 months.

She could only walk when she was two, but could be seen dancing in her walking ring from six months. “She would change the style of her movements to suit the music and I knew than that Madison had a talent and would dance. There was no doubt,” said her mom, Juanita.

Madison has been home-schooled since Grade 5 to allow for the time and financial commitment that her dancing requires.

She started competing at the age of 10 with her first partner, Dylan Botes, and they competed for seven years together.

In 2016 she started dancing ballroom with Siphosethu and has been training with her Latin partner, Sibusiso, for three months.

“There is something to learn from every coach and every dancer from every level,” said Madison.

She loves the feeling of dancing as it is a way for her to express her feelings and gives her the opportunity to tell a story through movement.

Madison hit the dance floor with confidence as she trained for countless hours with her dance partners. “I was just so excited to have the opportunity to share the floor with top dancers from all over the country. Both wins were an amazing feeling,” said a humbled Madison.

Madison and her two partners Siphosethu and Sibusiso hope to get sponsorship for their dancing in 2018 and possibly compete in the UK in Blackpool and make SA proud.
