Ilustrious musician performs at monastery

Erik Dippenaar, one of South Africa's most illustrious classical musicians, returns to perform once again with Baroque 2000.

CAPE Town based harpsichordist and organist, Erik Dippenaar, one of South Africa’s most illustrious classical musicians, returns to perform with Baroque 2000 on Sunday, 17 December.

The concert will be held at the Church of the Monastery Mariannhill, and begins at 11.30am.

Dippenaar was a well known and greatly admired performer during his stay in London from 2005 to 2011 and performed as chamber musician at many important early music festivals.

He also worked as a soloist, both in recitals and in regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, and with notable Baroque musicians such as the great soprano Emma Kirkby.

At the concert he will be the soloist in Handel’s Organ Concerto op 4 no 1.

The other works include Bresianello’s violin concerto, soloist Ralitza Matcheva,and also Vivaldi’s Sinfonia for strings in E major, Telemann’s concerto for violin, trumpet and cello, and Torelli ‘s Concerto a 4 in forma di Pastorale per il santissimo Natale. More delectable and appetising treats will be offered at the end of the musical items.
