Fire department shares best ‘foamula’ for fun

Embo littlies were treated to a morning of fun in the sun and an afternoon of treats and presents.

THE laughter of children could be heard resounding across the Pinetown Fire Department during its annual Christmas party for underprivileged children.

Thirty eight children from the Embo Valley were in their element, climbing the giant inflatables, water slides, the disco dome and a firm favourite, the foam pit.

Each child was given sweets, a delicious meal as well as a wrapped gift, which was a collaboration between sponsors and money pooled by the firefighters.

“Each year we identify a different organisation in the area,” said the station commander of eThekwini Metro Fire, Dallas Danielson.

“As a service provider, we feel that we need to share with those less fortunate than ourselves.”

The divisional commander, Dennis Govender, said he felt it was the social responsibility of the fire department and its members to drive this sort of project.

“It is one of the biggest blessings to make a difference in a child’s life,” said Govender.

Dallas thanked Rob Roy Lifestyle Retirement Village, Rainbow Inflatables, Spur Sandy Centre, Bluff Meat Supply Pinetown, Doug Taylor (Olivetti Highway), Hattons SPAR, Taryn Venton, Pelican Pharmacy, Boxer Pinetown, Clive Pillay (Chatsworth Youth Centre), Meditech Ambulance Service, ER24 medical services and the fire fighters for their support.
