TO avoid an estimated electricity bill, eThekwini Municipality is urging its customers to use its new SMS service.
The City’s Electricity Unit upgraded its meter reading SMS service and switched over to the new short SMS code 30909 on Friday, 1 December.

The phased-out meter reading SMS number, 083 700 0819 is no longer operational.
Normal standard rates will apply to the usage of the SMS service.
A customer should include his/her name, the property’s account number, the meter reading and the contact number.

An SMS with the reading should be sent four days prior to the bill-date on the account.
