The riveting day of competition was held at Kloof High School.

MAESTRO Fencing Club hosted the KZN Championships at Kloof High School on Saturday, 7 October.

It was a riveting day of competition involving three Durban clubs with competitors ranging from eight to over 70 years old across the three categories: sabre, epee and foil.

Participants included national and provincial champions which meant that most bouts were fiercely competitive.

Maestro came away with seven medals, Hillcrest club won 17 medals and UKZN club six medals.

Durban has an active fencing community that attracts both men and women of all ages.

It is a sport that puts people of different fitness levels and body types on a level playing field, and has a number of health benefits including stress reduction, core strengthening and increased mental agility.
