LEARNERS at Malvern Primary School observed Meat Free Mondays with the help of Fry Group Foods and sponsors from the community.
Mia Narsai, 2016 Miss Fire, who is also a 2016 Miss Earth runner-up, spoke to the children about Meat Free Mondays.

Fry’s sponsored vegan viennas and product discount coupons and residents sponsored rolls and sauces.
Meatless Monday is an international campaign to encourage people to not eat meat on Mondays to improve their health and the health of the planet.
“This event was also a fund-raising initiative. The learners each brought in R5 which will go towards paying for improvements to our building which is more than 100 years old,” said a teacher at Malvern Primary School, Tara Aberdene.

Tara Aberdene, a vegan herself, contacted Fry’s to ask for if they would sponsor hot dogs to the school to assist in promoting Meat Free Monday.
“As it is a cause that is so close to our heart we jumped at the opportunity to do so. We also enlisted Mia Narsai, a former Miss Earth runner-up- to give a talk to the kids around the positive effects a plant based diet can have on the environment,” said Fry’s event co-ordinator, Claire Van Wyk.
