Armed robbers target Westville family, open fire on police

The gang stole jewellery and fled the scene in a black Lexus.

POLICE were shot at by a gang of armed robbers fleeing a home invasion in Westville yesterday.

Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios, said the robbers gained access to the home by forcing open the front door.

They then held up the family at about 11am.

“The gang robbed the family of jewellery and fled the scene in a black Lexus with false number plates, which is believed to be connected to several recent armed robberies around Durban,” Mathios said.

“As the gang fled the scene, a flying squad police car drove past and the gang opened fire on them. The robbers fled towards the M13 with the police in pursuit. No injuries were reported.”
