Learners doing community service, impress

"From painting to washing dogs, to general maintenance and clearing land, the boys put their all into their three days."

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s Grade 10 learners found out the true meaning of selfless service recently when the entire Grade spent three days doing community service.

The school’s media spokesperson, Lyndy Coombe, said the purpose of the three-day annual initiative is to foster within the boys a servant’s heart and offer a chance for boys to build character while connecting with their community

The boys spent their time at Horizon Farm, Mazarat Kennels, Husky Rescue, Lily of the Valley, IDUBO, CROW, Headway, Methodist Church Soup Kitchen, Westville Parks (Rockdale Park), Domino Foundation, Gift of the Givers, Kloof and Highway SPCA and Bobbi Bear in Amanzimtoti.

From painting to washing dogs, to general maintenance and clearing land, the boys gave their all into their three days.

Residents from Rockdale Avenue in Westville were particularly impressed after more than 40 boys spent their three days clearing the Rockdale Park.

“A shout out to your young men who have done a sterling job this week cleaning up the Rockdale Conservancy – thank you, that took a lot of hard work and it is looking fantastic” was one of the comments from a resident.

Eureka Olivier from Bobbi Bear in Amanzimtoti was blown away by the boys who volunteered there.

“Please accept my humble gratitude. I simply cannot thank you, Westville Boys’ High School, enough for the calibre of young men in your school. You, as a school, can be extremely proud to have these young men in your books. I can only see an extremely bright future for these boys. They have superb manners, positive attitude, great initiative and carried their school name with such pride. Their behaviour while on our property was exceptional. I truly cannot thank you enough for allowing them to do their community work at Bobbi Bear,” said Eureka.
