Dr Moodley leads Lyndhurst Primary School

"My message to parents, and staff is 'I'm a learning leader, leading learners and change is good.' "

WITH 33 years of teaching under her belt, newly appointed principal at Lyndhurst Primary School, Dr Sara Moodley, hopes to lead her 52 staff members and 827 children from Grade R to Grade 7 and fulfil her vision to improve the environment at school.

Dr Moodley was appointed as the new principal at the school on 1 July however only presumed duty on 24 July.

“I have been warmly received by the school governing body, staff, learners and parents whom I have met thus far and look forward to meeting many new faces at this school,” said Dr Moodley.

Her teaching career began in 1983 as a Level 1 teacher at Parklands Primary School for 19 years. She then became the head of the department at Marian Park Primary School for 13 years. She was then promoted to deputy principal in January 2015 at North Crest Primary School in Durban North until June 2017.

“North Crest Primary School together with my 31 years of experience formed a training ground for my new post as principal at Lyndhurst Primary School,” said Dr Moodley.

She said the highlight of her career, was her studies. She only decided to pursue her studies in education in 2007 [out of boredom] and in seven years achieved three degrees – her B. Ed Honours degree, her Masters in Education and her PhD in Education, with her focus on leadership, management, law and policy.

Dr Moodley’s passion has always been teaching school based teacher professional development.

Her belief and philosophy is that effectively developed teachers increases their teaching moral which has a positive effect on improving teaching and learning.

“My message to parents and staff is ‘I’m a learning leader, leading learners and change is good.’ ”

The mother of two said its a privilege to be here to learn and lead. Her aim is to maintain a friendly, productive and harmonious relationship with all stakeholders to achieve the vision and goals of Lyndhurst Primary School.
