Discover the key to helping others with Open Door

The Open Door Crisis Care Centre in Pinetown is offering a lay counselling course for those wishing to help others in need.

THE Open Door Crisis Care Centre’s lay counselling eight-week course starts on Saturday, 2 September.

The course is a must for lay counsellors, neighbourhood watch volunteers, educators and community workers who are involved with men, women and children facing challenges in their homes and schools.

It is also valuable for anyone wishing to improve their own life skills in dealing with conflict, work and social related problems.

The course, aligned to SAQU standards, offers psychology students hands on training and is recommended by lecturers in the various universities and colleges.

It will give participants basic counselling skills and teach them how to deal with conflict and will address social issues of rape, domestic violence and child abuse.

Participants will also be trained on the various Acts and Bills including the Sexual Offences Act, the Domestic Violence Bill, the Children’s Act, and the Trafficking in Persons Act.

More than 10 000 men and women have undergone a life changing experience through this course.
