Fabulous reads – Romance novel will have you pleading for more

Book review- Riven by Lissa Del.

Riven, Lissa Del, e-book

I have read two romance novels in my lifetime, Me Before You and this beautifully crafted and emotionally gripping story.

I recall finishing the Jojo Moyes novel with tears in my eyes, saddened by the touching ending.

As I neared the ending of this book, and despite what I had read in other reviews, I thought I knew better.

Lissa, aka Melissa Delport, will take you on the most heart-wrenching emotional roller-coaster ride in just a few short pages.

I am not afraid to admit that tears were streaming from my eyes and I may have let loose one or two deep sobs.

I didn’t know better. I found myself in a love-hate relationship with Lissa. How dare she?

The female protagonist, Sarah Holt, is a happy, level-headed and humble beauty who has her sight firmly set on an internship at Burke & Duke, one of the top architectural firms.

The post could give her the experience she needs to break into the industry.

Her two besties, Jess and Tom, are classic. The dynamic between the trio is wonderful and you can’t help but imagine them appearing on a popular sitcom.

What is clear is that these friends are there for each other, through thick and thin, no matter what.

Enter Leo, an undergrad at her university. He’s slightly older, suave, a bit reserved at first but the sparks between him and Sarah are palpable and these soon ignite into a blaze of glory.

They’re the perfect couple. They fit together so well.

Even though it is a new relationship, Sarah is still working hard towards her goal – nothing could possibly go wrong.

Everything just… fits.

Until the jealous, jagged puzzle piece that is Sarah’s ex tries to place himself back into her life.

You start piecing the bits together and you start to believe that you know where the story line is heading, but you don’t. Not really. Nothing can prepare you for what happens. Nothing.

It needs to be read to fully grasp the double plot twist that Lissa swings in right near the end.
