Fabulous reads – Action-packed new series will have you hooked

Book review - Generation One by Pittacus Lore.

Generation One, Pittacus Lore, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9780718188795

Last year the release of United as One drew the epic New York Times bestselling I am Number Four series to a close, much to the dismay of fans across the globe.

Generation One is the perfect reboot to this franchise, incorporating elements from the original series with a new cache of characters to begin a thrilling new series that can be read on its own.

Generation One is the first in the Lorien Legacies Reborn series.

It begins a little over a year after John Smith and his Lorien Garde defeated Setrakus Ra, along with the help of the human teenagers who were affected by the Loralite and developed incredible powers of their own. While the war is over, pockets of Mogadorians still plague the Earth, and an academy is formed to train this new Human Garde to eradicate the threat and protect mankind.

My initial thought when reading Generation One was a yearning for the characters I have come to know and love – the Lorien Garde.

While this didn’t happen – exactly – there was enough mention to satisfy my craving, and while the academy is run by the government, one particularly fierce and feckless professor is easily recognisable and much-loved from the original series.

It is also clear that as the series develops the original Lorien Garde and the new Human Garde will cross paths and possibly work together. I also had concerns about the introduction of so many new characters, but was pleased to discover that they were all surprisingly easy to connect with.

Perfect for fans of X-Men or The 5th Wave.

This spin-off series is set to become another fan-favourite – it is the perfect blend of dystopian sci-fi that will have you eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

Fun, fast-paced and action-packed.
