Foundation committed to do more

The Do More Foundation was launched to much fanfare as its aims and goals are to help empower children, feed the hungry and care for animals.

SOUTH Africa’s National anthem reverberated through the RCL Foods’ head office in Westville to mark the launch of its Do More Foundation recently.

LIV choir, made up of children from LIV Village, entered the building with great fanfare as they belted out our anthem, walking in single file to a makeshift stage in the centre of the building.

The company’s employees made their way out of their offices, filling up the walkways and stairs to get a better view of the children singing.

After the short concert hosted by LIV Village, one of the beneficiaries of the Do More Foundation, Warren Farrer, a trustee and the foundation executive said a few words to those gathered at the event.

RCL Foods is a leading food producer and one of the largest pet food and feed manufacturers in South Africa.

According to Warren, this directly affected the aims and goals of the Do More Foundation as it aims to do more for those in need.

“We want to do more for the hungry as the country is so food insecure. Do more for children as we can help change the cycle of poverty in the country if we can uplift the lives of children. Ninety per cent of brain growth happens before the age of five and more than 20 per cent of children are stunted and will never reach their full potential. We can radically change things for the children and their families,” he said.

Another aim is to care for animals, working in conjunction with another large non-profit organisation trust.

“We don’t just write a cheque and support one project. it is not about us being the hero at the end of the day. It’s all about the community and the children,” said the passionate Warren.

To acknowledge those who are helping their communities, the foundation will roll out the Do More Heroes initiative, a platform where people doing amazing outreach work throughout the country will be acknowledged.

“We will offer eight grants per month of R2 500 worth of RCL Foods products. At the end of the year, the fans on our Facebook page can then choose their top hero for the year and the winner will receive a further grant for their supported project,” said Warren.

Creating the Do More Foundation has paved the way for other roleplayers to get involved.

“This structure gives the foundation credibility with government partners, other non-profit entities and the private sector. As we will soon have public benefit organisation (PBO) status, supporting us will have an immediate tax benefit for donors,” said Warren.
