Beats of Africa ring true at Thomas More

The seniors from three highway schools and the LIV Village Choir performed on the evening.

LEARNERS from across Durban captivated the audience with their down to earth beats at the recent Rhythms of Africa event at Thomas More College.

The senior primary learners from St Mary’s DSG performed on the marimbas and African drums, the Hillcrest Senior Primary School musos played a Mendelsson mix and Hickory Dickory Dock on the marimbas and Thomas More’s senior learners sang an Afrikaans Medley, performed a Zulu poem and finished off with the Fire is Low.

The LIV Village learners stole the show with the colourful costumes, cheery performances and an excellent mix of their own music and a few of the classics.

“Thank you for taking the time to support the children and for joining our cultural departments as we celebrate our rich African heritage,” said Barbara Taljard, the headmistress for Thomas More College’s primary school.
