Deejay Bruno’s music unites races
DJ Bruno wants to change the stereotype most people have about music in the electro house genre.
FOR a Molweni deejay, nothing fulfills his heart and passion for music more than seeing people of different races and cultures dancing to the same music.
DJ Bruno (24) plays electro, techno and deep house and said his passion for music started at a very young age.
“In 2015, I met with Ryan Stier and DJ Dot who saw the talent in me and promoted me as a DJ and taught me a lot of things about this industry.
DJ Bruno said it was hard when he started playing electro house but it is popular and loved by mostly white people.
“When I started playing in Molweni, people use to complain to the organisers of the event that my music was too loud and they do not like it but as time went by, they accepted it and started dancing to it and had fun,” he said.
With his music, Bruno said he wants to change the stereotype most people have about the genre and inspire people who aspire to become DJs, especially in the electro house music scene.
“Music has brought me closer to people of different cultures, it’s through music I have come to understand people and the spaces they exist in. People should not limit themselves to commercial music, but should explore other genres,” explained Bruno.
Bruno has played in various clubs around Durban and hopes to see himself grow in the music industry playing in other countries like Spain in the future.
“My role models are DJ Black Coffee and DJ Fresh who have made it in this field and are respected in other countries for their work,” said Bruno.
His dream now is to host his own event and feature other upcoming artists.
“It is not easy to get bookings if you are still new in this industry.”
Besides music, Bruno enjoys skateboarding and wants to study commercial law.
