THIS is the first book I have picked up written by the South African duo, Sarah Lotz and Louis Greenberg, who write under the pseudonym S.L. Grey.
A deadly virus has broken out and has torn its way across Asia, killing thousands and leaving a path of mayhem and destruction in its path. The fear among Americans is rife as they believe it is only a matter of time before the virus lands on their shores and will wreak a similar havoc across the nation.
Several families race to a safe-haven called The Sanctum, a seemingly luxurious underground bunker – the perfect place to hideout in the midst of a deadly outbreak. Once the vault door is closed and lock down has been instituted one of them is found dead. The residents of the vault have only ever met once before and don’t know each other well enough not to be distrustful of one another. As other problems start arising withing The Sanctums walls, and animosity and fear spread among the families – only time will tell if another one of them will receive Death’s calling card.
From the word ‘go’ you will be drawn into this intricately woven thriller. What could possibly go wrong when you throw a cacophony of colourful characters into a confined space? Plenty its seems as each character’s problems, baggage and fears play large roles in moving the story forward – which moves at a breakneck speed (excuse the pun).
There are a few characters that you will love to hate and others you will want to protect with all your being. If you enjoy something fast-paced with meaty characters, you will be hard-pressed to find a better novel. – Lloyd Mackenzie
